THE VISION

The past generation has seen a phenomenal intensification of built form in Toronto mirroring the vast European rebuilding required by western forces of 20th century mass desolation and destruction. The renewed impetus in world wide migrationist patterns sustained even further development.

Through all this trauma, intolerance for injustice, yearning for individual respect, and the rise of planetary consciousness have found a welcome consolidation in the Canadian nation/state and particularly the city/state of Toronto.

"Doctrines, politics and civilization exurge from you,
Sculpture and monuments, and anything inscribed anywhere are tallied in you,
The gist of histories and statistics as far back as the records reach is in you this hour,
and myths and tales the same.
If you were not breathing and walking here, where would they all be?
The most renown'd poems would be ashes. Orations and plays would be vacuums.
All architecture is what you do when you look upon it.
[Did you think it was in the white or gray stone?
Or the lines of the arches and cornices?]"
Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass, 1892
