THE RETURN OF NATIVE PEOPLE TO THEIR HOSTING DUTIES

The Hotinonshon:ni prophecy of gathering the peoples from the four directions under the Great White Pine Tree of Peace is now coming to fruition. In a place still named in the language of the Ancestors peoples from virtually every part of the world finding refuge in Toron:to. This place of great destiny is named for one of the most ancient white pine trees fallen in the primordial forest. This tree lay still and surrendered for many years providing refuge and place for ceremony and meeting. It still lives in the spirit and name of this place.

The modern city of Toron:to is built on the remains of the aboriginal peoples of the Hotinonsho:ni [people who build the longhouse] Nations – namely Huron, Neutral, and Seneca. Following a period of desecration, the Anishnabec peoples migrated down from the north and it was their people who greeted the first British settlers. Today the rise of planetary consciousness has found a welcome consolidation in Toron:to.

Over the past generation a significant gathering of built forms in communication with the sky has been constructed reflecting and confirming indigenous knowledge.

The original Hotinonhson:ni teachings instruct us to share with all peoples who visit our lands. In an understanding held in the Two Row Wampum, our many Ancestors agreed to share this place in our separate yet collateral streams. The time has come to recover and refresh these old responsibilities in this special place which is nurturing a powerful form of global community. Toron:to: Beacon to the Ancestors will be the initiation, confirmation, and celebration of the recovery of this understanding.
