THE RETURN OF NATIVE PEOPLE TO THEIR HOSTING DUTIES

The events and exhibitions envisioned to facilitate the condolence customs among the diverse peoples of Toron:to ["place of the great fallen tree"] will find form in organized activity over a one-year period, on a site designed and constructed for the purpose, as well as a financial endowment for continuing service.

The envisioned location is along the original extant shore line of the city in the port lands, at the foot of Cherry Street. Seventeen specific ceremonies are proposed to be held during the initial twelve month period. The design of the site and the architectural emplacements include an East-wst Longhouse, a North-South Longhouse, two sites for Sacred Fires, and specific plantings, including a restoration of the indigenous environment.

Leading design and conception of the project will be Dr. William Woodworth. A number of key native leaders, useful professionals, and people from organizations of strategic value to the reconciliation and healing processwill be part of the discussion and planning of the project.
